Do you know of any work by Louis Vergobbi? I know of only one, the logo of the Dime Bank on the floor of the Dime Bank. I wonder if it is still there.

Did you know that there is a non-profit Office of Public Art in Pittsburgh and that the City of Pittsburgh has a Public Art Manager?

Also, if you do not know about the Pittsburgh Public Art Walking Tours here's a link to them: http://pittsburghartscouncil.org/public_art_walkingtour.htm

You may also be interested in the Public Art course at CMU's Heinz College taught by Renee Piechocki, the Office of Public Art Director.

I just "discovered" the same book last week, and found your blog today. I grew up in Pittsburgh and never new about many of the sculptures that Marilyn and Vernon presented. Living in Oceanside, CA now, and the book is wonderful, if somewhat dated. I look forward to following your adventure!

Interesting. I think it's more likely a bird or airplane than a UFO, though :D

This is will seem frivolous, but the large statue of columbus, when viewed closely, has a flying disk in the background. I just noticed that. I just picked that out as I was looking at the full, high-quality photo.
